Getting there

By car

Hamilton is 285 kilometres west of Melbourne and is easy 3.5 hour drive from Melbourne, and 6-7 hours or 655 kms east of Adelaide. Travel via the Henty, Glenelg or Hamilton highways.

From Melbourne, take the Western Highway to Ballarat (A8) and, from there, take the Glenelg Highway (B160) to Hamilton.

From Geelong, take the Hamilton Highway north to Hamilton.

From Adelaide, simply head to Bordertown via the Dukes Highway (A8). This becomes the Western Highway across the border, passing through Nhill, Dimboola and the Little Desert National Park to Horsham. Accessing the Grampians Region from the north takes in the expansive open country beyond Hopetoun or the fertile farmland northeast of Wycheproof and St Arnaud.

For an alternative route from Adelaide, head to the Coonawarra wine region (A1) and then follow the B160 through Dunkeld to Hamilton. Heading up to Hamilton from the south coast means travelling the beautiful Great Southern Touring Route which takes in the Great Ocean Road and the lush hinterland from Portland and Port Fairy to Penshurst and Hamilton.

Important note: Please note that there are very few petrol stations along the Glenelg Highway between Ballarat and Hamilton so it’s a good idea to fill up before leaving Ballarat.

By bus

Coach services are available from both Melbourne and Adelaide.
