Our research in Cuba centres upon Havana and begins from the Malecón,
the ocean-front promenade that wraps around the city. The boulevard
links the newer southern suburbs to Old Havana (Habana Vieja) and
to the run-down port area. The waterfront is characterized by dilapidated
rooming houses that were once the grand homes of the imperial wealthy.
